Bits from Sunday's Sermon

This week’s Advent theme is love and that makes John the Baptist a perfect match for this week’s theme. John preached a message of repentance because he knew that there is coming a judgment day, a day when many people would find themselves separated from God for all eternity. The only loving thing to do is to tell people the truth, and John did just that. To those who came to be baptized by him John said, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bear fruits in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.” (Luke 3:7–8, ESV)
