It's difficult to summarize all the Biblical based teaching from the first two messages this morning.
Steve Lawson preached from Romans 9 to make the point that God has always chosen a remnant. Abraham was promised to be the father of a great nation and yet only a remnant of that nation is saved.
Austin Duncan preached from Genesis 38 to show that it was the by the providence of God that Judah was chosen to be the line through which would come the Messiah.
