Rainy Days

Rain certainly is a blessing from God. It is also a testimony of the goodness of God. As we read in Acts 14:17 Yet he did not leave himself without witness, for he did good by giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.” (ESV)

What a blessing it is to see the abundance of rain we are receiving in Southern California this winter. Although it is wonderful to see God's blessing in the midst of the rainstorm, it also reminds me of the waterfall of water just outside my office door here in Tujunga. Due to a clogged downspout the gutter overflows right outside my door. As soon as the rain stops I forget about the much needed repair to that clogged downspout.

We often pray more in hard times than in good, but what is happening in our life should have no bearing on how much time we spend with God each day. Don't neglect your need for God in both good times and bad. As that great puritan preacher Thomas Chase has said, "Make God your choice and not your necessity, and labor to maintain such constant converse with Him that when you die, you may change your place only but not your company."
