SIGNPOSTS AT CHRISTMAS
"The Lord himself will give you a sign: behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel."
Isaiah 7:14
What is a sign? It is something that is intended to do two things: grab your attention and then tell you something. You may be driving on a hazardous mountain road and see a flashing sign warning you to slow down for a sharp curve ahead. Billboards are designed to grab your attention, to do it fast, and then to leave you with a message you won't soon forget.
The Bible tells us there is a “sign” regarding the promised coming Messiah. And this sign, designed to get our attention and tell us something, is that a “virgin shall conceive and bear a Son.” This is humanly impossible. It would take a divine miracle.
Jesus was virgin-born. He was not God and man. He is the God-man, the “only begotten son… of the Father” (John 1: 18), who put His own seed in a young virgin girl.
CODE WORD: SIGN
Today, as you do your Christmas shopping and see hundreds of signs grabbing your attention to tell you something, let each one be a reminder of the “sign” that Jesus is Lord is the virgin birth, the bedrock of your salvation.

Lord, if I could understand it all, there wouldn't be much to it. I believe... by faith.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
